Denial is intrinsic to addiction. The mirrored work ‘Alcoholism’ confronts denial with intervention, forcing the viewer to face themselves head on. In a wider sense ‘Alcoholism’ reflects the West’s consumer paradigm. Addiction to sugar, money and oil affect us all to varying degrees. The mirror presents an opportunity for consciousness, to look beyond the mask at our own reality.

“With the mirror, we take our reality into another world and find a relationship to our own soul.” Marion Woodman, Addiction to Perfection, 1982.
